Holden and Pretorius sparkle in the rain during the Middlesbrough snatch tie.

Pretorius

In the Men's Vitality Blast, Hampshire Hawks and Middlesbrough tied a DLS thriller, but Max Holden stole the show from Lhuan-dre Pretorius's thrilling debut.

Wunderkind from South Africa. Before the weather interruptions, Hawks hit 63 runs, while Pretorius smashed a 22-ball 44.

Following Chris Wood's maiden, the Hawks were overwhelming favorites, and Middlesbrough needed 76 to win after DLS recalculated the score. However, Holden scored 38 in 18 before Ben Geddes' 10 and Kane Williamson's 23 brought Middlesbrough to the verge of defeat, but both teams had to share two points.

It was Middlesbrough's fourth T20 match and Hampshire's ninth.

Pretorius completed an unofficial Test match for South Africa A in Saint Lucia on Wednesday, but he did not arrive in the UK until Thursday. After Middlesbrough decided to bowl first, Pretorius appeared to be unaffected by jet lag as he blasted a front-foot pull to the boundary off the opening ball of the game.

He proceeded to remove two more boundaries from the opening over with a wristy thrash through the covers and a well-timed clip off the pads.

Hawks supporters had to wait for Pretorius, who came with high hopes after dominating the SA20 scoring charts in his own country during the winter, including an undefeated debut of 97.

Although it was slightly dampened by the news that the two would only be available until June 20 after being called up to the Test squad to face Zimbabwe, Dewald Brevis' quick effect only served to increase the anticipation for the second gun Proteas' arrival.

James Vince was caught at cover point by Zafar Gohar, but Pretorius' bat continued to produce runs after hitting 15 off the opening over, reaching 29 off 14 balls.

After four overs, persistent rain started to fall, causing a two-hour and twenty-minute delay. An eleven-over-a-side game was on the verge of restarting when yet another shower caused a postponement. After a while, Pretorius resumed in a six-over-a-side match.

Toby Albert was content to simply rotate the strike as Pretorius blasted to 44 not out from 22 deliveries in two overs, including a brilliant six over deep midwicket. DLS converted Hampshire's 63 for 1 score into a 76-run target for the visitors.

With only a leg bye on the total, Wood started with a maiden over, shattering their prospects of pursuing that.

James Fuller began with another dot and leg bye. After getting away with an inside edge, Holden took 19 off the second over by hauling over extra cover for four, over square for six, and another inside edge for four consecutive boundaries.

As the Northants' run comes to a close, the Jimmy Neesham show prepares Durham.

Jimmy Neesham

Jimmy Neesham's outstanding performance with bat and ball helped Durham stop the Northamptonshire Steelbacks' six-game winning streak and win the Vitality Blast by 15 runs at Wantage Road.

Neesham, who returned to Northampton for the first time since playing for the county in 2022, was significantly responsible for Durham's 157 for 8 total. After Durham collapsed to 77 for 5 after 10 overs and 113 for 6 after 16, the New Zealander scored 50 off 34 balls.

Will Rhodes produced 27 in a sixth-wicket stand of 36 with Neesham to start the recovery, while captain Alex Lees hit 29 at the top of the innings.

Justin Broad made a heroic 30 in the chase, while Matt Breetzke made 41 from 36 balls. Before Neesham swooped in to take three wickets for 29 in the last overs, the Steelbacks finished at 142 for 8.

Spinners Nathan Sowter (1 for 12) and Callum Parkinson (2 for 16) put the clamps to work, giving up just two boundaries in a decisive, economical six-over period combined.

Durham lost two wickets for 43 in the powerplay against a strong Steelbacks bowling display. Ben Sanderson bowled Graham Clark first, and Luke Procter found some late movement to bowl Ollie Robinson's first ball.

Before Durham lost three wickets in the four overs following the powerplay, Lees seemed in fine form, driving Procter down the ground with a smooth cover drive off Sanderson. George Scrimshaw, a pacer, gave Colin Ackermann some bother with a bouncer before cutting onto his stumps to dismiss the Netherlands all-rounder.

With just five singles off his opening over, Justin Broad (2 for 22) maintained the pressure and took the crucial wicket of Lees when he was caught behind on an attempted pull.

After hitting a massive six towards the Durham dugout at midwicket, Ben Raine targeted legspinner Lloyd Pope. However, three deliveries later, he was declared leg before wicket (LBW) to Broad, moving across his stumps.

To keep Neesham and Rhodes occupied by rotating the strike and running the ones and twos, the Steelbacks limited the number of boundaries and backed up effectively in the field.

David Willey returned for his last over and bowled Rhodes with a full ball that hooped back in with some great reverse swing. However, Neesham stepped up, sweeping Procter over square leg for six after hitting Scrimshaw for the first boundary in 26 deliveries and cracking him through midwicket.

In the last over, the returning Sanderson caught Zak Foulkes at backward square-leg before Neesham put him down for six more. Neesham hit another maximum to push Durham over 150 after Procter had taken off Matt Potts in the last over.

Before slipping behind, Ricardo Vasconcelos made a thrilling cameo of 23 off 15 balls, which included three boundaries from Potts and back-to-back fours from Raine.

As the Steelbacks ended the powerplay on 56 for 1, Breetzke drove Neesham square for four after greeting him with a booming straight six.

Parkinson bowled a tight opening over, giving up only four runs, and had Willey caught at deep cover as the Steelbacks reached 77 for 2 at the 10-over stage. After Breetzke was caught on the long-off boundary, Parkinson scored once again. Thirteen balls later, Saif Zaib was trapped leg before wicket by Sowter while executing a reverse sweep.

The momentum threatened to change when Ravi Bopara dismissively cracked Potts through extra cover and maneuvered him through backward point. At the 15-over mark, the Steelbacks were still in the hunt, requiring 55 off the final five overs.

Neesham, however, quickly had Lewis McManus' first ball through with a gentle poke to short third man and had Bopara neatly caught on the leg-side boundary. Before the spinner had him caught at mid-off, Broad continued to press on, hitting Raine for a huge six over midwicket. In the last over, Neesham finally swooped in to dismiss Sanderson.
