As the two giants, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, are not controlling Ghanaian football as they once did, Kwame Opare Addo, the communication director for Hearts of Oak, has discussed a variety of topics in detail.
As a testament to their dominance, both teams have won 46 league titles between them, with Kotoko holding the most (25) and Hearts of Oak the remaining 21. They have also never been demoted.
That is no longer the case, though, as both teams have only won one championship apiece since 2015 and have not won one in the last two seasons.
This demonstrates unequivocally that the heavyweights can no longer impose their will on the Ghana Premier League and the FA Cup as they once could because of the type of competition they face from other teams these days.
In an interview with Kumasi-based Opemsuo Radio's "Pramaso" show, the ambitious administrator was candid when he said that they are unable to maintain their position at the top because they are unable to draw in quality these days, as all young players are vying for a European spell in search of better opportunities.
He also acknowledged that they can even have trouble luring talented players away from other teams, so they are consistently of the same caliber, which is what has caused their recent difficulties.
"I am thrilled that Benjamin Asare will be with us for two more seasons," Ouattara remarked. "We need a disciplined goalie to stabilize the goalkeeping department." He is necessary to us.
Asare has maintained 13 clean sheets in 20 games in the Ghana Premier League, giving up just eight goals, which is a compelling argument for his contract extension.
In the Matchday 27 match between Hearts of Oak and Vision FC at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex, which kicks off at 15:00 GMT, he is anticipated to be in goal.
