Suns cut former first-round pick, attempting NBA comeback

NBA comeback

According to league sources, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype has learned that the Suns have placed veteran big man Frank Kaminsky on waivers. The first to report that Kaminsky would not be on Phoenix's opening-night roster was Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic.

With an impressive career resume that includes averages of 8.8 points and 3.8 rebounds in 19.8 minutes per game and a three-point shooting percentage of 34.9% on 3.0 tries per game, Kaminsky is an eight-year veteran who has played in 413 regular-season games.

He did not play in the NBA the previous season, though, as he played for Partizan Belgrade in Serbia. He was also viewed as more of a luxury than a necessity because the Suns would incur far higher estimated tax penalties if they kept him on once his minimum salary contract expired.

It is important to note that Kaminsky's training camp contract had Exhibit 10 wording, indicating that he would be amenable to reporting to the Valley Suns and attempting to win another NBA opportunity by doing well in the G League.

The Suns' roster appears ready for the regular season now that they have waived their other non-guaranteed players and have 14 players on standard contracts and three on two-way agreements.
